Nia Health and Resource Center

Nia means purpose in Kiswahili: to make our collective vocation the building and development of our community to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

Urgent Africa opened the Nia Health and Resource Center in Majiwa in September of 2001. Nia Center provides holistic health care to the general population with emphasis on prevention, testing, and education on the management of HIV/AIDS. Nia also provides general health care to villagers, offering counsel, medicine, antiseptics, health supplements, along with many other resources. Nia Center is staffed by an onsite nurse, doctor, AIDS educator, and visiting volunteer health professionals skilled in various modalities including doctors, nutritionists, counselors, nurses, HIV/AIDS educators, and students of medicine from all over the world. All services are free at Nia.

How you can help the Nia Health and Resource Center:

  • If you are a health professional or health/medical student, you can volunteer at the clinic

  • Donate medical supplies and shipping

  • Cash donations to help finance the HIV/AIDS tests, prevention education and administration of the Nia Center
